August Member of the Month-2016
Congratulations, Lawson Talbert!
Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of CrossFit Center City. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at email@example.com or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened!
Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to CFCC. Check out all of our past Members of the month here!
Here’s what you all had to say about Lawson:
I’m not even sure where to begin, this is a well deserved recognition for Lawson. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have joined Crossfit but he motivated me. That is the best thing about Lawson, he is a great motivator. Always pushing you to do a little more weight or one more rep. Even with it being the 6am class you can always hear him motivating someone during a set. It’s tough working out with Lawson because he just has such pure strength. He throws the weight around like its nothing, then I try and do it and realize how heavy it actually is. He has only been with CFCC for a short amount of time and he is already having a positive impact on people around him and that is just the type of person he is. Congrats Lawson!
Lawson is proof that Hard work pays off. if you trust the process and are virtuous in your movement you will see improvement. He has come a long way. Very proud of him.
Am Inspired by his Steady consistency . Am in awe of his strength. One of the few who can sniff Arrus’ strength numbers in the 6 AM..Lawson does MULTIPLE training sessions a day. His dedication will make him a better athlete that is for sure. Independent up the good work partner.
So happy for you Lawson! It’s truly remarkable how far you’ve come in the last couple of months and how strong you’ve become over a short period of time.
Lawson and I have had our fair share of laughs during AP when we’re broing it out and one thing I can say is that this kid has superman type strength. I giggle at how he makes a 90lb dumbbells look like a football. Also have you seen this guy back squat? Just give him all the weight the gym has to offer. I can’t wait to see how he does at the total. Expect big number peeps.
Another awesome thing about Lawson is his positive attitude. He always is so kind and greets others and is always cheering his fellow athletes on. Heck just this Sunday he pushed me during the 9/11 hero WOD.
Congrats once more Lawson. This is well deserved and I’m glad that the gym is recognizing how hard you’ve been working. Great job boss!!!!!
I think Lawson and I love the exact opposite aspects of Crossfit. I mean, he definitely warms up with 2x my back squat PR, while I just want to sprint to 7/11 and back for days. Lawson may not be the loudest or the most outgoing (let’s be real, who has the energy for that before sunrise?) but his dedication and consistency to early mornings — and seriously, his mega strength numbers — are so impressive. Congrats Lawson! 6am wouldn’t be complete without you!
Thoughts from the Coaches:
Much like Clark Kent turning into Superman, Lawson rolls in here suited up and fresh everyday then promptly changes and starts squatting 400 pounds. Lawson is quiet and dedicated, often coming in for the WOD and then speciality classes in the evening. He puts in the work and then it’s back into the phone booth where he can suit up and unassumingly go back among mere mortals. Well deserved!
Lawson’s been quietly hitting huge PR’s in the gym through consistency and effort. It’s awesome to see this recognition from the community. Congrats Lawson!
Hooray Lawson! Lawson is usually the first one after me in the door on Monday morning, and last one to leave putting in extra accessory work after class. His dedication to getting better has led to dramatic improvements (strict pullups have gotten so FAST), and he is an absolute inspiration. Combine that with his pleasant, kind, helpful demeanor and infectious laugh, and you have someone who has quickly become a pillar of the CFCC community. If you don’t know him, you should. Congratulations!
I had just started shadowing Foundations when Lawson was going through it, and it is awesome to see how far he has come in the short time since he’s been in the regular classes. He’s an animal! Lawson makes me a better athlete by telling me to step up my game while I’m lazily warming up on the assault bike, to which I respond by telling him to step up his game while he squats 78508 pounds. Congratulations, Lawson!
Lawson came in with a quiet guy demeanor, but unbeknownst to the common Six AM’er, this man has the spirit animal of a Minotaur. He is known to be the first one in and the last one out. If you’re lucky, you’ll see him crushing class, or working on his weaknesses off on his own. Basically embodying the classic notion that champions train when no one is watching. Congrats sir.
Lawson is the best. His attitude during the workouts is great, even when he struggles with a particular movement- he attacks it head on and finishes with a tiny little smile on his face. I also like it when he giggles.
Cool dude, and with a strong background in, literally, “Strength” he has been making some huge GAINZ. Lawson is always willing to shoot the breeze and rap with other athletes, which is cool. He has been due for this on this sneak-tip. Congratulations.
Lawson! Tell us about yourself!
1. What do you do when you’re not at the gym? Your profession?
I work at Bank of America as a Relationship Manager.
2. How did you find out about CF?
I was looking for a new gym and my co-worker Omid told me about the CrossFit gym in the basement of his building. LA Fitness was not working for me anymore. I saw the CrossFit Games on tv, and it looked challenging and fun.
3. What makes you come in and train on days that you don’t want to?
The things that push to come in and train on days, I want to stay home and sleep are, the environment, the members and most of all, the COACHES.
4. What’s your favorite movement and/or metcon?
I really do not have a favorite metcon or movement, at times the metcon can be very challenging. (I love it).
5. What’s one thing you would like to accomplish within CF in the next year?
My primary goals are maintaining a healthy life style and staying active.
6. Name something about you that’s a little-known fact.
I enjoy cooking and watching football all weekend.
