February’s Member of the Month!
Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of CrossFit Center City. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at email@example.com or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened!
Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to CFCC. Check out all of our past Members of the month here!
Our member of the month for February is one of CFCC’s newer members. He came to us towards the end of last year a little trepidatious about getting started. However, since his first elements class he has truly plunged head first into his work here, and we could not be prouder or happier to have him! With an infectious good attitude — he is the loudest PR cheerer, best icebreaker question answerer, and one of the best jolts of good energy we have had in the gym in a long time. He has poured himself in to his workouts and his first Recharge challenge, and are so excited to watch how he progresses. We’re so happy you’re a part of our CFCC family…
From the members:
“Perry is a force to be reckoned with. He is a great athlete at CFCC. When attending class he is ready to get started right away. I have had the pleasure to work out with Perry in team WODs and he just does not stop. Along with his unstoppable ability he has a great personality. He is always smiling and laughing and making others athletes do the same. I cannot think of another member more worthy of the honor of member of the month. ”
“I’ve been in a decent number of classes with Perry since he finished the elements series. He’s a perfect recipient for the member of the month! He’s one of the most friendly people at our gym and is always cheering people on before, during, and after a workout. There is so much positive energy in the classes he attends, and he brings a lot of levity and good humor to grueling workouts.”
“Perry is a cheering force to be reckoned with. I know that he’s in the room every day when I’m walking down the stairs because I can hear him cheering people on from nearly a mile away. So happy he is a member here!”
From the coaches:
“First of all, Perry is just a fantastic name because it’s almost like Perrin. In fact, I have acquired the nickname “Perri” during the past few months and on occasion I have found myself getting so excited overhearing the glowing remarks about Perry’s progress since he joined CFCC and then I realize they aren’t talking about me. But that’s totally cool because I am proud to share the first four letters of an awesome name with a great person:) The first time I met Perry I immediately was drawn in by his infectious smile, positive attitude and friendly demeanor. Perry’s enthusiasm to learn and grow as both an athlete and a person is inspiring to watch and I look forward to being a part of his journey throughout the future. Congratulations Perry!!!” -Perri(n)
“Perry your positive attitude and desire to learn is contagious and I absolutely admire you for it. Congrats and keep up the great work brother!” -Coach Chris
“Perry is the kind of athlete that can make anyone’s day better, even after a rough work/school day. He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm that creates an awesome and powerful atmosphere not to only train in, but to coach as well. From what I’ve seen, he puts in 110% to his workouts and in supporting other athletes. Thanks for making my day end off on a better note after taking a session.” -Basa
“It’s been an absolute joy watching Perry grow as an athlete and a member of the CFCC family in such a short time. He can always be heard celebrating and encouraging his fellow athletes, he’s excited and ambitious, but always stays humble. He’s a pleasure to work with and it was amazing to watch him learn about nutrition during Recharge. Perry, don’t ever change! ” -Meg
“Perry has a heart of a warrior. Everyday he puts in work, either in class or with nutrition. He thrives to be the best version of himself, and that type of energy is infectious. Keep it up.” -Tim
SPECIAL GUEST SPOT FROM COACH GREG!
“CFCC is lucky to have a guy like Perry as part of their family and team. I had the pleasure of taking him through his one-on-one elements, and his positivity each and every session was unparalleled. He has the drive, passion, talent, and attitude to be among the best some day. Keep it up Perry!”
“Perry has been an inspiring addition to CrossFit Center City. The excitement he has for everything we offer, from our nutrition challenges to our specialty Olympic Lifting classes, is contagious. He consistently re-energeizes the people around him and shows a sincere interest in learning about how to be his own best. Perry is exactly the kind of athlete that Coaches look forward to working with every day. I can’t wait to see what progress he’ll make in the future!” -Voz
“PERRY! Honestly, Perry is the kind of athlete that makes a bad day in the gym 100% worth it. He reminds me of what I loved about CrossFit when I first started. You start because you are looking for a way up. You start and everything is new, difficult, and exciting. You start, and you just can’t stop high-fiving your way around the room because you’ve finally found that thing that reignites a fire in you to start fighting for the best version of yourself. I love seeing Perry at CFCC because he makes me immediately grateful to be here, hopeful for the future, and aware of the privilege it is to do what I do. His energy is infectious, his potential is great, and he makes me feel stronger. Perry, keep up the great work, and don’t be afraid to fall and get back up again… that’s just called a burpee. ;)” -Erin
And now, a word from Perry:
I cannot begin to express how grateful I am. You guys are awesome and without your guidance and great spirit, I wouldn’t be progressing the way I am. Thank you so much, it makes me want to work harder and do more to help my fellow brothers and sisters work hard and keep their spirits high.
What do you when you’re not here? Your profession?
When I’m not rolling around on foam rollers (as a hobby), I am a power plant production technician. I help improve peoples lives by providing electricity and steam for residential and commercial use throughout the city. I enjoy looking at art, especially tattoos, listening to music, going to concerts, and getting stuff ready for my son who is coming in July (EDITOR NOTE: YAY!).
How did you find out about CF?
I found out about crossfit through a friend. He started in 2011 and it’s all he could talk about. It took me some time to join, and I’m glad I finally did
What makes you come in and train on days when you don’t want to?
Meghan Ramos said it best, she said “this place can be an amazing refuge from all of life’s ills. Also the family environment is key. Athletes start asking questions if they don’t see you around. If feels like letting down a best friend by not showing up.
What’s your favorite movement and/or metcon?
My favorite movement/met-cons are all of the Oly lifts, and any met-con involving thrusters. They are pure insanity but I love them for some sick reason.
What’s one thing you would like to accomplish within CF in the next year?
A crossfit goal of mine is to be able to perform every met-con without scaling it down. Even if that means only one muscle up or one strict pull-up. My Oly goals are snatching 200 pounds, a 250 pound clean and jerk.
Name something about yourself that’s a little known fact.
A little known fact about me is I am currently 5 months sober and recovering from a drug addiction. It is a truly humbling experience. I’ve had the greatest support from friends and family, and crossfit is a massive part of my recovery. It has helped reignite a fire in me I thought was lost. Support from my coaches and fellow athletes has been vital. You guys are awesome.
Seriously Perry. You are an inspiration to all of us. We are so
excited to have you here, to support you on your journey, and to see
how far you go.
