May’s Member of the Month…

Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of CrossFit Center City. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at info@crossfitcc.com to tell us what happened!

Oh, side note – the Member of the Month is awarded a FREE MONTH OF MEMBERSHIP TO CFCC.

Our May Member of the Month is someone who seemingly never has a bad day. He consistently walks into the gym with a great attitude regardless of the movements planned for the day. Encouraging other members both audibly and sometimes just by example, he is a pleasure to both Coach and work alongside of. This months Member of the Month is…

Getting to know Kevin:

What do you when you’re not here? Your profession? I’m a CPA and I work in Business Development Finance for Johnson & Johnson.

How did you find out about CF?  My company has a gym on site and they started bringing in a crossfit instructor once a week. I took the class and I was hooked.

What makes you come in and train on days when you don’t want to?   I never regret going when I walk out of the gym, so I try and focus on that especially the days when I don’t feel like training.

What’s your favorite movement and/or metcon? Any metcon not involving thrusters, heavy thrusters or sneaky thrusters

What’s one thing you would like to accomplish within CF in the next year? I would like to hit a 1.5x body weight front squat.

Name something about yourself that’s a little known fact.  I have been lucky enough to have traveled to over 46 different countries.

Why we love Kevin as much as we do:

“Kevin Callaghan, a regular at the 730pm session, is a consistent athlete, a friendly training partner, and a committed member. Regardless of what is going on in his life, or what the WOD is, he shows up with a positive outlook, and gives every movement, every rep, and every moment his best. He cheers his fellow members on to the last rep, is willing to change up his training to see what works and what doesn’t, and once spent his fitness hazarding his way through an infamous go-ruck race. He’s the kind of person I can imagine being stronger, faster, and more skilled every year and I am so grateful for the privilege of having him and Lauren at CFCC!”

“Kevin is one of the most consistent members we have – he’s a guaranteed staple at the evening classes. His performance in the Open was solid, dependable, and impressive. On the very first workout, he pr’ed his snatch at 135 pounds, then repeated the workout later in the week only to perform 13 reps at 135. He works hard every day, but he’s also always looking to perfect his technique. He eagerly incorporates any cues we give him, which is refreshing to see. Kevin’s potential is limitless!”

“Kevin’s will and determination to make himself better everyday is an effort tough to match. I have coached Kevin in many successes and failures, but regardless of the outcome he is always giving his best. This is the athlete and person I aspire to be. Thank you and congrats Kevin for inspiring us all to bring our best everyday.”

“Kevin is fearless! He is willing to try anything to finish the workout.  I love it!”

“Kevin is a superior athlete but demonstrates why through his hard work and committment to Crossfit. I keep saying to myself that if I commit to “all the things” the way he does that I too will become that athlete. A great role model and a kind, quiet, though supportive partner. Truly an asset  to Crossfit Center City. Thanks Kevin.”

“From my first official class there after Elements, Kevin was the first person to introduce himself, and when I was struggling with my first metcon, he was done well before me and he stood there with me pushing me to dig deeper, go a little faster and to finish what I had to do that day.  Every class I attend that he is a part of, he gives everything he has and he shows determination to be his absolute best as well as motivating others to do the same.  Sure, there are many people who do the same, but from day one Kevin has been a member that I look up to.”

Congratulations, Kevin, thanks for being a pleasure to train with at CFCC…and for making faces like this:
