Member of the Month – Dani Feldman!
Congratulations, Dani Feldman!
Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of CrossFit Center City. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. First I am very, very excited that she has finally won this honor because she finally deserves it ;)
Dani and I at a time could have been described as ‘frenemies’. But those days are long behind us. Today I look at Dani in awe of the tremendous amount of hard work she puts in — day in and day out, doing little things to improve herself as an athlete. I mean the girl installed a pull up bar in her office at work. She also bought some land outside of her apartment with a sturdy enough tree branch so she can install her own rogue rings. Just kidding.
In the past year Dani has gained heavily weighted strict pull ups, strict ring dips which she utilizes in WOD’s to do everything RX’d, muscle ups, a vast improvement of her HSPU, and the list goes on. I think Dani’s biggest growth though, is that of a supportive friend and cheerleader for other athletes in the gym. Dani gets very excited about her own feats of strength, and rightfully so, but she is equally if not more excited about others gains, and this is what makes her a perfect candidate for member of the month.

She’s always crushing and always looking to crush more– I mean, girl even got a pull up bar for the doorway of her office. Personally, I like to keep all my fitness activities behind closed doors, ya know, cause I’m always in my office like practicing double-unders between clients and totally not napping. But I digress. Dani is so deserving of MOTM, not only because she was the only other member to survive dry January, but for her dedication to CrossFit and her complete support of others. Congrats bud!! Dani represents what CFCC is all about. She is one of the most consistent athletes at the gym and is a such a workhorse. This girl zero ins on anything she’s struggling with and crushes it. From HSPU’s, to muscle ups. This girl can do it all.
One of my favorite memories with Dani was actually during this years open. I believe it was 17.3. When she tried the workout the first time she was unable to snatch 95lbs several times, but she tried once again a couple of days later and eventually got it. It’s this type of resilience that makes Dani such a great member at our gym. She inspires me as well as several other gym members with her undying passion to get better.

The first time I remember seeing Dani was at the stache showdown in 2015; it was my first month at CFCC and I wanted to “meet people.” Dani, however, made it abundantly clear that she was not there to be met…at least by me. Dani warmed up to me with time – as most people tend(need) to do – and we bonded over a game of WW hosted by our very own Jpap. Despite the fact that I blabbered like a belligerent Susie in her face all night, Dani has since become one of my closest friends at CFCC. (WTAF is wrong with her?!). Dani is a great friend – she is genuine, direct, thoughtful, loyal and funny. Dani is one of the few friends I have with whom I can be honest. I can tell her exactly what I’m thinking or feeling and she never judges me and she always listens. She is not afraid to be herself and she is never one to shy away from offering her opinion! Dani is insanely punctual (not to mention smart) too.
Dani is an incredible role model. Despite the fact that she is many years my junior, I look up to her. Her gainz at CFCC continue to inspire me. She is super disciplined with her macros and her work ethic is second to none. Watching her crush the open made me happy! 🏼♀️ Aside from her crazy pr tally (#juiced) (#cupping), Dani is the best workout partner. She is ultra competitive so partnering with her is fun because she pushes me. In metcons, competing with her usually results in defeat for me, but I love to at least try to beat her!
Dani is one hell of a spotted hand stand kick up partner and merely laughs when you drop her when it’s your first time to spot! She stood by my side cheering me on while filming my first hspu. She is the first person to text me to congratulate me on a pr, the first to ask how my day way/how my shoulder feels. Her virtual/real hugs are always welcome and comforting. She went to the noon wod for every workout during the open but she still offered to show up at night to be my judge or cheer me up or just witness my workout and fall victim to my insults as a poor innocent bystander attempting to offer encouragement to me during the open as I was getting pillaged by muscle ups, db snatches, and 17.4. Thanks and sorry Dani!

Some more about Dani!
1. What do you do when you’re not at the gym? Your profession?
For those of you who don’t know me, and even for those who do, I do not think anybody would be shocked to know that my profession is pretty nerdy. When I’m not working out, which I do way too much (or not enough), I am a mechanical engineer at a design firm in Philly. Other than work and working out, you can usually find me wandering the city with my pup or hanging out reading in a park!
2. How did you find out about CF?
I originally found out about CrossFit through one of my friends up in Boston who knew I would love the camaraderie, and yes competition, of CrossFit. I started CrossFit up there in 2013 and when I moved to Philadelphia continued my journey. I could not ask for better coaches, better programming or a better community than that at CrossFit Center City.
3. What makes you come in and train on days that you don’t want to?
If I am going to be honest there are rarely days that I don’t want to train (vom, I know). Even the days that I am really tired I know that going to the gym will give me energy and make me feel revitalized. I have finally gotten to the point where I feel at least slightly comfortable with most movements and I love coming in and practicing new skills.
4. What’s your favorite movement and/or metcon
I grew up as a runner, so any metcon that has running in it is probably my favorite… with the exception of Murph… that one I am still learning to enjoy. I definitely like cycling light hang power cleans in a workout – I find them more cardio-esque which is right in my wheelhouse.
5. What’s one thing you would like to accomplish within CF in the next year
I have recently (kind of) conquered the muscle up, if you haven’t seen my bajillion videos on instagram – not sorry, and I would really like to get smoother at them and be able to do them in workouts. Also handstand walking. I am still coming for you Jacquie!
6. Name something about you that’s a little-known fact.
Hmm… going back to the first question, nobody would be surprised, but not many people know that I was captain of my Science Olympiad team in high school. Nerd alert. That club was what originally got me into engineering and I haven’t turned back since!
