STACHE SHOWDOWN INFO

Greetings Moustachians!

As promised, this is your official notice as to how the event tomorrow will be organized.

ALL COMPETITORS MUST BE WARMED UP AND READY TO BEGIN AT 6:30PM, ON THE DOT, REGARDLESS OF WHICH HEAT YOU’RE IN. These events will move FAST, and we will not wait for you! If you’re not ready to begin when your heat is called, you will suffer our wrath and be disqualified. Don’t make us do that.

Every heat will move through Event 1 (outlined again below) before we move on to Event 2 (the order of the heats will remain the same for Event 2). A cut will be made after Event 2, after which TOP SECRET Event 3 will be announced, take place and we will crown the winners! The standards for the events (especially the Turkish Get-Up) are outlined below, but we’ll be going over every movement again tomorrow.

Don’t forget – a moustache or beard is MANDATORY to participate! If your own beard is nonexistent or perhaps less than luscious, fret not – we will have PLENTY of options available for you tomorrow night. Don’t be afraid to get a little goofy.

Speaking of getting goofy, all competitors and spectators are invited to head over to Smokin’ Betty’s immediately after the winners are crowned for celebratory festivities. If you want to come out, BRING YOUR OWN CASH (and of course, don’t forget your ‘STACHE).

EVENT 1: GET UP, STAND UP!

EACH TEAM HAS 7 MINUTES TOTAL TO FIND A 1RM BARBELL TURKISH GETUP.

The score is the combined weight of each partner’s best successful attempt.

EXAMPLE: If Partner 1 stands up successfully with 65 pounds and Partner 2 stands up successfully with 45 pounds, the team score is 110.

A successful lift means that the weight must be overhead in one arm (either arm may be used), under control – take this to mean that judges will be looking for a full 2 second count for the time that you are holding the barbell in a completely locked out position.

You may use both hands to stabilize the barbell before beginning the lift, but your other hand may not touch the bar during the rest of the attempt. As soon as your shoulder blades leave the ground, you may not use your opposite arm to stabilize.

Once the weight is overhead and the judge has called whether or not it’s successful, you may drop the bar.

A certain number of plates will be allotted to each team, and each team is responsible for loading their own bar.

EVENT 2: DRAG AND DON’T DROP!

EACH TEAM MUST COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING FOR AS MANY ROUNDS AS POSSIBLE IN 7 MINUTES.

WEIGHTED SLED DRAG (100 POUNDS), 20 FEET (2 PASSES, EACH PARTNER MUST COMPLETE ONE PASS)

BUDDY CARRY, 20 FEET (2 PASSES, EACH PARTNER MUST COMPLETE ONE PASS)

*one back and forth sled drag + one back and forth buddy carry = 4 points / 1 round.

Incomplete rounds will be counted towards your final score.

EXAMPLE: Erin and Sammy are partners.

1. Erin drags the 100# sled for 20 feet to the finish line = 1 point

2. Sammy drags the sled 20 feet back to the starting line = 1 point

3. Erin buddy carries Sammy 20 feet to the finish line = 1 point

4. Sammy buddy carries Erin 20 feet back to the starting line = 1 point

THAT’S ONE ROUND. They repeat until time is called. If they do this 3 times and both Erin and Sammy complete a sled drag on round 4, they will record a score of 14 points for this event (3 full rounds plus 2 points).
