“These are our few live seasons. Let us live them as purely as we can, in the present.”
— Annie Dillard (Pilgrim at Tinker Creek)

I am sure we all remember where we were the moment we heard about the events on 9/11/01. On that day my Dad was away in D.C. on business and happened to be right across the street from the Pentagon when the second series of attacks occurred. He has had meetings before in the Pentagon and at the time, I remember wondering immediately where he was and being immediately relieved to know that he was fine. There will be many opportunities and incentives to dwell on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and all the events that have sprung from the tragedy of one day, but I want to say that at the very least, this day affords me a chance to look around and be grateful for what this country, and this city has given me.

Gratitude, I think, should inspire action.  CrossFit is not just about fitness, it’s about living your life to the fullest.  I hope this is a place where you all can feel that that is a possibility every day.  I’m sincerely grateful to be a witness to it.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to watch us on Saturday – and CONGRATS to Melanie Griffin and Todd Lane, Chris Santaniello and his amazing sister Meghan for making it into the final round of competitors.

Are you feeling a little inspired to train after looking at all the great pictures from Cathryn on Facebook?  Come hang out with us tomorrow at CrossFit 1Force’s GRAND OPENING from 10am-1pm tomorrow (Sunday).  We’ll be meeting at the gym at 9am.  If you want to go, meet us there and if you can drive, please bring your car!  There will be a BBQ, a workout with LOTS of equipment you’ve probably never used, CF swag and a tribute to the anniversary of 9/11.

Hey, this was really nice and inspiring, Erin. I got cut from the tennis team yesterday, and while sports are such an insignificant thing in the grand scheme of life, I worked as hard as I could with the little time that I had to prepare and gave it my all. I realize the opportunity itself was such a blessing, as having life itself, let alone a healthy and comfortable one, is a rare gift.

I was having a hard time with the cut, so thanks for this, which helped me place why athletics meant so much to me- seeing how much I get out of this short thing called life.

    • Thanks, Rob – and sorry to hear you got cut :( I’m sure everyone has had to bite that bullet at one time or another in life. There is always another opportunity for sure.

I hope the free time you have gives you room for good things! Come visit us soon!
