With 2012 coming to a close I thought I would write about the most important thing that happened to me this year. It’s called CrossFit Center City.
On the left is me in a wedding at the end of March. On the right is me at a wedding at the end of October (I know, shameless selfie). I made the call to CFCC after the wedding on the left. I was so horrified at how I looked in all of the photos; something had to give. 3 weeks later I started “elements,” the CFCC on-boarding to get started. After elements I was unsure of the direction I would take. I felt weak. I felt out of shape. I felt like I would never be strong.
I emailed Erin Davidson, owner of CFCC and expressed my concerns. Erin responded with a very detailed, well thought out email that gave me all the motivation I needed to break out of my comfort zone and give this CrossFit thing a shot. I joined full time in the middle of May. Walking in the door was the hardest part for me, but Erin said, “show up, we will take care of the rest.”
After a few weeks I started to gain confidence, I started to realize that not only was I capable of being strong, I was strong – I just didn’t believe in myself. CFCC gave me such unexpected confidence. I started going 4 days a week and while I was noticing progress as far as my lifting ability, I wasn’t exactly seeing dramatic body composition changes. That’s when I decided to read the CFCC nutrition blog chock full of helpful information and try something on my own. I went “paleo” on July 9th and the rest is history. It made me stronger, leaner. To date I have lost 25lbs since joining CFCC.
This gym is special. In fact, I would say specialization is what sets them apart. There is a designated endurance coach for running and rowing. A designated Olympic lifting coach for all things oly. A designated gymnastics coach, a designated yoga coach, a designated nutrition team, and very smart dedicated everyday session coaches.
Best of all is the camaraderie. It’s never easy to walk into a place where you don’t know anyone. The atmosphere is such that it facilitates friendships. I have met some amazing people whose paths I certainly never would have crossed had it not been for CFCC.
The return on my investment has been unprecedented. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I made the call to join after the wedding in March. If you are considering CrossFit and are unsure, I highly recommend taking the leap of faith that I did. It has changed my life, and I can’t wait to see what happens in 2013!
