In honor of the day, I just wanted to fill you all in on how our Adopt-A-Family venture went.
This was the FIRST year we’ve been able to do this, and I have to say we were all OVERWHELMED by your generosity. We gave a HUGE pile of gifts to a family of 4 children. We loved the Mackintosh’s Easy Bake Oven + Ipod contribution! We were stunned by the sheer volume of new member Ken’s awesome stocking stuffers. We couldn’t get over the immediate purchase of all sporting goods and Julie Hickman’s speedy purchase of 2 whole bikes! We loved the science, tattoo art, and engineering sets! We loved the turtle banks and sock stash! We loved it all because in ONE week you all showed yourselves to be who you really are: givers. All tolled you gave more than $1000 in gifts!
I am sure today that, 7 year old Jaylin is using his baseball glove and playing his drums, 5 year old Jaime is dancing around in a tutu covered in Easy Bake batter, 10 year old Ja’shae is making jewelry and putzing with her iPod, and that 11 year old Ja’Ron is deciding whether he should play basketball or football first. We can’t change everything that we want to in Philadelphia, but it is nice to know that for one day, we were able to give a family the ability to feel cared for and treasured.
Thank you all for making this possible – and for reminding me that CrossFit is not always about being a better athlete, but also, being a better person.
“You often say ; I would give, but only to the deserving.
The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture.
Surely he who is worthy to receive his days and nights is worthy of all else from you.
And he who has deserved to drink from the ocean of life deserves to fill his cup from your little stream. See first that you yourself deserve to be a giver, and an instrument of giving.
For in truth it is life that gives unto life-while you, who deem yourself a giver, is but a witness.”
